If you have submitted an application to the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) for an Australian credit licence (ACL) or Australian financial services (AFS) licence, you are required to join and maintain membership of an ASIC-approved external dispute resolution scheme (EDR). Similarly, if you are appointed as a credit representative of an ACL holder, you will need to obtain EDR membership.
The Australian Financial Complains Authority (AFCA) will replace the three existing EDR schemes of the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS), the Credit and Investments Ombudsman (CIO) and Superannuation Complaints Tribunal (SCT) from 1 November 2018. Existing CIO members are required to transition to AFCA by 31 August 2018.
In view of this, CIO are no longer accepting new applications for membership. Applicants should instead apply for membership with AFCA.
You can apply for AFCA membership via https://www.afca.org.au/. For more information about AFCA membership, please contact 1800 931 678.
