CIO is an External Disputes Resolution (EDR) scheme approved by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC). The majority of the participants of the CIO scheme are either an Australian Credit Licensee (ACL), Australian Financial Services Licensee (AFSL) or an Authorised Credit Representative (ACR). Membership of the Credit and Investments Ombudsman (CIO) is open to any person or business authorised to engage in credit activities as a Credit Representative of an ACL holder.
If you have submitted an application to the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) for an Australian credit licence (ACL) or Australian financial services (AFS) licence, you are required to join and maintain membership of an ASIC-approved external dispute resolution scheme (EDR).
The Australian Financial Complains Authority (AFCA) will replace the three existing EDR schemes of the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS), the Credit and Investments Ombudsman (CIO) and Superannuation Complaints Tribunal (SCT) from 1 November 2018.
In view of this, CIO are no longer accepting new applications for ACL, AFS and other financial services providers. Applicants who fall under any of these member types should apply for membership with Australian Financial Complaints Limited (AFCL), which will be the operating entity for AFCA.
AFCL can be contacted on 1800 931 678 or www.afc.org.au.
Credit representatives appointed by an ACL holder who is an existing CIO member can continue to apply for CIO membership by completing the credit representative application below.
