The Ombudsman is appointed by the CIO Board and is the decision-maker of the Credit and Investments Ombudsman, with overall management responsibility for the Credit and Investments Ombudsman.
The Credit and Investments Ombudsman can make any decision allowed under CIO’s Rules and has the powers, duties and functions conferred or delegated by CIO’s Constitution, Rules and Board.
Ombudsman & CEO - since October 2006
Raj was appointed as the Ombudsman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Credit and Investments Ombudsman in 2006.
He has been a senior legal professional for over 20 years, with considerable financial services experience, both as an in-house lawyer and as the Executive Director of Australian Association of Permanent Building Societies.
Raj is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Australian Institute of Management and a Member of the Society of Consumer Affairs Professionals Australia (SOCAP).
He is also a member of the Australian and New Zealand Ombudsman Association (ANZOA), the peak body for Ombudsmen in Australia and New Zealand. ANZOA members represent not-for-profit industry-based, parliamentary and other statutory external dispute resolution offices. They meet accepted high standards of independence, impartiality and effectiveness and observe the Benchmarks for Industry-Based Customer Dispute Resolution.
